About Ethel – Hi, I am Ethel. I am an accredited, HCPC Psychologist and Forensic Psychologist working in mental health since 2009. I have experience working internationally in Spain, the UK, and Switzerland within the NHS, forensic and prison services. I have worked in outpatient and inpatient services with adults and also with adolescents. I can offer therapy in English, Spanish and Italian.

I have worked with people presenting various psychological problems, from long-term mental issues such as psychosis, bipolar, and personality disorders to depression, anxiety, or addictions. I have also experience working with adolescents with complex presentations and their families or careers.

I mostly use Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and mindfulness. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is a relatively short-term, active treatment for a wide range of mental health issues, including depression, anxiety, anger, loneliness, panic attacks, perfectionism, procrastination, discomfort in social situations, and self-criticism. Through decades of clinical trials, CBT has been found to be an effective treatment for children, adolescents, and adults. The focus of treatment is on identifying how you are thinking, feeling, and behaving in your daily life and then understanding how each dimension of these thoughts, emotions, and behaviours impacts one another. CBT helps people identify patterns of biases in their thinking and provides guidance on how to change these distortions that are negatively impacting their mood and/or behaviour.

Dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) is a type of talking therapy. It's based on cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), but it's specially adapted for people who feel emotions very intensely. DBT was initially designed to treat people with suicidal behaviour and borderline personality disorder. But it has been adapted for other mental health problems threatening a person's safety, relationships, work, and emotional well-being.

Ever since I was young, I knew I wanted to get into a career path that would make a difference in people’s lives. This interest led me to study psychological science. As a licensed Psychologist, I am committed to the well-being of all my clients and go above and beyond to cater to their needs.

In my free time, I love to travel, meet people from different backgrounds, and learn from them. I love to stay in contact with nature and animals and spend time with my family and friends.
